Location:  16232 Henry Rd, Amesville, Ohio, 45711.  Our 120-acre farm is located 20 minutes from Athens, Ohio.  Athens is home to Ohio University which provides international and Appalachian cultures.  Athens County is home to many state parks offering hiking, camping, boating, and other outdoor activities.

 Apprenticeship Dates:  May 1, 2008 - November 22, 2008

 Length of stay:  We would like for apprentices to stay for a minimum of eight weeks.

Description of activities:  The crops we produce include year-round greens, microgreens, roots, and many other seasonal products.  We sell to a variety of customers including farmers’ market sales, CSA, restaurants and grocery stores. 

Type of work:  The positions that are available will include all aspects of our farm production including planting, harvesting, garden planning, pest and weed management, greenhouse work, processing and packing farm products, selling at market, use of some farm equipment, season extension, and mushroom production.  We produce a wide range of garden and greenhouse crops to fill orders for our CSA, local restaurants, farmer's markets, and regional restaurant and grocery customers.

 Education:  Apprentices will be provided two forms of education.  The first, and most important, form of education will be immersion.  The second form of education will be structured biweekly sessions on current crop management practices.

 Accommodations:  Tented platforms are offered with a breathtaking view of the farm and a small pond for swimming.  A covered, open-air cooking area and outhouse are also provided.  It is possible that the tents will be shared between apprentices.  Food stuffs will be provided, but the apprentices are responsible for the cooking.  Vegetarians can be accommodated. 

Expectations:  Apprentices will be expected to work a 40 hour work week with the rest of the staff. No experience is necessary, only a willingness to work hard and learn. 

Stipend:  $100/week 

Transportation:  No transportation will be provided, so a car or bike is strongly recommended. 

Languages:  Spanish-speaking apprentices can be accommodated. 

Children/Pets:  No
