Apprenticeship Dates: April 1, 2010 - November 15, 2010 Length of stay: We would like apprentices/interns to stay a minimum of eight weeks. Preference will be given to those who are available for 3-6 months. Description of activities: The crops we produce include year-round greens, microgreens, mushrooms, and many other seasonal vegetables. We sell to a variety of customers through farmers' markets, our CSA program, as well as restaurants and grocery stores in southeastern Ohio. We also work with local producers to offer other products to CSA members such as milk, fruit and bread. Type of work: The positions available will include all aspects of our farm production such as planting, harvesting, irrigation, pest and weed management, composting, processing and packing farm produce, selling at market and delivery, use of some farm equipment, season extension, and marketing. Education: Apprentices will be provided two forms of education. The first, and most important, form of education will be immersion. The second form of education will be structured biweekly sessions on current crop management practices. Accommodations: Primitive cabins and tent platforms are offered with a breathtaking view of the farm and ponds for swimming. A community kitchen, port-a-let, and shower facility are also available. Food stuffs will be provided, but the apprentices are responsible for the cooking. Vegetarians can be accommodated. Expectations: Apprentices will be expected to work a 40 hour work week with the rest of the staff. No experience is necessary, only a willingness to work hard and learn. Stipend: A stipend of $100 to $200 per week (depending on experience) is offered. Transportation: No transportation will be provided, so a car or bike is strongly recommended. Children/Pets/Tobacco:
